About Udyan Digital Literacy

Udyan brings working computer labs, trained teachers and a hands-on curriculum to government schools in Gaya. Most of our students own no device at home — school is their only screen. Over four years, the program has grown into a teacher-led model: we set up the lab, train one teacher per school, run practical sessions, and hand over when the school can run itself.

Attendance, observations and assignment data are tracked all year — so progress is visible in real time, from first click to first code.

Why it matters

The digital divide starts at the school gate.

14.7% of young people in Bihar can send an email with an attachment.

2.4% can make a presentation.

9.7% of teachers have had any computer training.

Figures from the NSSO 78th Round, 2020–21. Most of our students own no device at home. School is their only screen.

How it works

Built to become teacher-led. Six steps, from an empty room to a lab the school runs itself.

  1. We pick schools by readiness and headmaster commitment, then test every student’s starting skills.
